Tom Morgan
Tom Morgan is a man who believes that service for your country and your community should be performed as often as possible. As a younger man during the Vietnam era he served as a supply officer for a nuclear attack submarine stationed in Pearl Harbor. While stationed in California he met and married his wife, Janet, who was a fellow Navy service member.
Since that time Tom has served his community in many ways and for many years. He is currently the Board President for the Turn About organization which specializes in providing early identification, intervention and advocacy services to school children and their families. In years past has served as the Vice President and the Treasurer. His current Presidential challenge has been to overcome the organization's financial challenges as they rely heavily on private donations which have declined with the economy.
Tom has also been an active Capital City Kiwanis Club member for well over ten years and has held several offices and titles within those years. The Kiwanis motto is “Serving the Children of the World” and in keeping with this and other community service goals the group works closely with ECHO (Emergency Care Help Organization) feeding the homeless, as well as partnering with the Moose Lodge to deliver a year-end Holiday celebration with gifts for the children of Bethany Apartments (ECHO). Tom regularly participates (often with his wife Janet) in various Kiwanis service and fundraising projects and in 1999 started an annual Vidalia onion sale, one of the club’s most successful and enduring fundraisers. Tom is a Past President of the club and was recognized as the club’s “Kiwanian of the Year” for three consecutive years.
In addition to these commitments, Tom is a Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce volunteer Ambassador and regularly represents the Chamber at events such as ribbon cutting and ground breaking ceremonies for businesses and public service organizations that are Chamber members. He often presents the Chamber’s commemorative plaques at these events and has been Ambassador of the Year multiple times. Tom is one of a handful of Ambassadors that have been accorded the title of “Honorary Ambassador” in recognition of several years of sustained service.
Finally, Tom is the acting President for his neighborhood association with activities that include handling and coordinating day-to-day business matters, periodically representing the interests of the neighborhood before the City and County Commissions, and recently, assisting the City in rewriting its animal nuisance ordinance.
